Listening Skills

Image
If you are going to develop your listening skills then you will have to get used to different accents. The English accent (UK) varies from region to region throughout the UK. Platforms such as YouTube are one of the best resources for this type of activity. Here are a few different accents you can compare: Birmingham Manchester Sheffield London In my listening classes, audio sound clips are played through your computer, you are asked to take notes and answer questions about what you have heard. The purpose of these classes is to familiarise you with different accents, speed of speech, and voice tones. Most learners are more comfortable with developing their writing skills than their speaking and listening skills. In my opinion listening skills are as important as developing the others. Training yourself to listen to key information comes with practice and time. I attach a link to a website that I found useful to demonstrate the importance of this Skill. http:/...

Debate

Image
Students are fantastic at expressing themselves in their mother tongue, but when it comes to performing the same task in a second language it more often than not poses a significant problem. I researched the Internet and various books as to how to overcome this problem, students had told me that they had memorised set sentences that reflected various emotions. These memorised sentences were being applied in both formal and informal structures. I decided to introduce debates to my classes and the subjects would be more effective if the student was passionate about a particular topic. Here are a few subjects that we have discussed in class: Paper is better than a word processor? The euro arguments for and against The mobile phone, is it a good thing or a bad thing? After the lessons, I noted that 70 percent of students wanted to know how to express anger in different situations, these included: at a supermarket, bus, taxi, in conversation. Perhaps the most interesting observa...

Why Do We Need To Learn English?

There are many reasons as to why someone would consider learning English as a second language. Some have dubbed it the language of money, others have discounted it as a cultural invasion. The global economic climate has changed people's perceptions as more and more Europeans flock into Language Academies. The influence of music, movies and social networking pla tforms have changed perceptions, for many however the need to improve job prospects and create opportunity in the work place is probably a more credible motivator. The English language is considered the language of business and as such plays a considerable role in the process of Import and Export. The recession is now a period of business reform, making money has become more complex and one of the most relevant points that could be made is the development of new positions in emerging markets where the English Language is a key factor. Here are a few reasons why you would consider learning English as a seco...

Teachers

If you are a teacher, I do a very good conversational course which helps you to improve phonics. Very few teaching systems provide you with what I call the code for sounds. Take a look at the code for sounds; A - ai B - bee C - sea D - dee E - ee F - ef G - gee H - haych I - eye J - jay K - Kay L - Elle M - em N - en O - oh P - pea Q - que R - are S - es T - tea U - you V - vee W - double you X - ex Y - why Z - zed As a guide, and reference I work with you to present clarity. Practice makes perfect, but it will help change the way the tongue moves against the teeth in order to present a much clearer sound. Posted by Sanj Saigal at 2:00 PM 0 comments

Describe An Image

Image
At some point, all my students learn to describe photos... It's an excellent way to develop vocabulary, practice tenses, and of course your conversational skills. You will be very surprised at how fast you conversational skills develop in a very short period of time.... Could you describe this photo in English?

The Interview

Most of my students are preparing for exams but they are also learning how to practice for interviews, I have dedicated lesson plans for both. Contact me today to find out more....

Thank You

Thank you for the emails that you have been sending to me, I hope to answer all of them shortly. The most popular question is; " Can you help me to improve my conversational skills?". Conversation comes with practice, if you imagine having a coffee with a native speaker once a week, without a doubt you would improve your confidence and this is key feature of my lessons. Skype offers a modern way of learning, at your own speed, when it is convenient to you. Now imagine me as that friend you are having coffee with, once a week we would discuss different topics of your choice and develop your vocabulary and speech patterns in a relaxed environment. You do not need to turn on your camera so it is just a voice over the computer. There are no courses to book, you just pay for a lesson when you feel that you need one. Contact me to see how I can help you today,  Hope to see you in class soon, Sanj
